Sukanya Lodh, PhD

Sukanya joined Dawn Davis’s lab in February 2017 as a Scientist. Her research in Davis lab is focused on investigating the role of a novel transcription factor TCF19 in pancreatic beta-cells (using cultured beta-cell and mice as a model organism).

Justin Bushkofsky, PhD

Justin joined the lab as a postdoctoral fellow in October 2012. He completed his PhD here at University of Wisconsin through the Endocrine and Reproductive Physiology Program. His graduate work was with Dr. Colin Jefcoate and focused on the effects of cytochrome P4501b1 deficiency and vitamin A deficiency on diet-induced obesity, liver metabolism, and glucoregulation. He currently works as a Scientist in Catalent Biologics in Madison WI.

Graduate Students

Danielle Fontaine, PhD

Danielle joined the lab in 2010 and completed her PhD in Endocrinology and Reproductive Physiology. Her work led to her thesis defense entitled ‘Tcf19: A novel diabetes gene.’ She currently works as an information scientist at Jackson Laboratory in Sacramento, CA.

 

Mieke Baan, DVM, PhD

Mieke joined the lab in the fall of 2011 and completed her PhD in the Comparative Biomedical Sciences program, with a PhD minor in Clinical Investigation in 2016. During her time in the lab, Mieke published 2 first author papers, a review article, and was co-author on an additional paper in the lab. Mieke is currently working as a veterinarian in Madison, WI with hopes to return to a career as a clinician researcher in veterinary medicine.

Research Intern

Heidi Umhoefer, BS

Heidi joined the Davis lab in Spring 2013 as a sophomore as part of her Biology 152 course. She graduated in May 2015 with a BS in Biology and Political Science. She currently works as a Research Associate at Illumina in Madison, WI.

Undergraduates

Kimberly Krautkramer, MD, PhD

Kim worked with Dr. Davis for over 2 years as an undergraduate student and completed her Senior Honors Thesis in the lab and then worked with us for 1 year as a technician. She graduated with honors with a dual degree in Molecular Biology and Philosophy in May 2010.

Ted Harris, BS

Ted joined the Davis lab as an undergraduate research student during his first semester at UW-Madison after transferring from UW-Oshkosh in 2009. He completed several semesters of independent study research in the lab. Ted graduated with a degree in Molecular Biology in 2015 and is currently enrolled in a PhD program in Medicinal Chemistry at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

 

Jane Petr, BS

Jane joined the Davis lab in Fall 2012 as a sophomore as part of her Biology 152 course. She majored in Nutrition and entered a graduate program in Nutrition after graduation at Rush University.

 

Amy Whillock, BS

Amy joined the Davis lab in 2010 as a sophomore. She graduated with Honors in Biochemistry in May 2013. She completed a Senior Honors Thesis in the lab during the 2012-2013 academic year. Amy was awarded a Hilldale Undergraduate Research Award and a Trewartha Research Award for her work in the laboratory.

Changing Medicine

Endocrine Fellows

Siri Sirinvaravong, MD

Siri was an Endocrinology fellow at University of Wisconsin and worked in the lab for her fellowship research project from 2011-2012. Siri’s work was selected for an oral presentation at the Endocrine Society annual meeting. Siri was on the faculty at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology and is now on faculty at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand.

 

Muhammed Ahmed, MD

Ahmed joined the lab in the summer of 2012 and conducted research as part of his endocrinology fellowship program.

Kimberly Richards Henrichs, MD

Kim worked in the lab as a pediatric endocrine fellow here at UW on a joint research project with our lab and David Abbott’s lab. Kim was awarded a Research Grant from the Endocrine Fellows Foundation for her research project. Kim is currently an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Endocrinology with Baylor College of Medicine, working at the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, Texas.

 

Residents

Dan Erhardt, MD

Dan joined the lab in fall 2013 as a 4th year medical student for a 3-month research elective. Dan got his MD 2013 and he completed his residency at the University of Utah. He is currently a Rheumatology Fellow at the University of Colorado.

Medical Students

David Halverson, MD

David worked in the lab as part of the Shapiro Summer Research program during the summer of 2010. He continued his training at Emory University as a resident in Psychiatry. He is currently a Psychiatrist in Atlanta, GA.

 

Phillip Stall, MD

Phillip joined the lab in the summer of 2012 as part of the Shapiro Summer Research Program for medical students. He completed his residency in Psychiatry at the University of Illinois and is currently working as a Psychiatrist in Birmingham, AL.

 

Jennifer Schramm, MD

Jenny completed a degree in Molecular Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2010. She joined the lab in the summer of 2011 and entered medical school here at UW in the fall of 2011. She completed a Shapiro Summer Research Program in the lab during the summer of 2012 and additional research electives in 4th year medical school. She graduated from the UW School of Medicine with Honors in Research in 2015. She was awarded the Endocrine Society Medical Student Achievement Award. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. She currently works as a fellow in Pediatric Cardiology at the National Children’s Hospital in Washington, DC.

 

Scott Hetzel, MD

Scott worked in the lab as part of the Shapiro Summer Research Program in the summer of 2015. He is currently an Internal Medicine Resident at UW-Madison.

 

Kelsey Wartgow, BS

Kelsey worked in the lab as part of the Shapiro Summer Research Program in the summer of 2019. She is currently in medical school at UW-Madison.

Undergraduates

Joshua Suhonen, MD

Josh worked initially as an undergraduate student and later as an employee in the Davis lab after graduation from 2008-2010. Josh graduated from medical school at the University of Wisconsin in 2014. He continued his training at Southern Illinois University as a resident in Radiology. He currently works as a Radiologist in Springfield, IL.

 

Greg Schleis, MD

Greg initially joined the Davis lab as a sophomore in 2009 while taking Introductory Biology 152. He completed 3 years of undergraduate research in the lab, including a Capstone program in his major. He graduated with a degree in Microbiology in 2012 and then graduated from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 2016. Greg was awarded the Endocrine Society Medical Student Achievement Award. Greg pursued a residency in Internal Medicine at Aurora in Milwaukee, WI. He currently works as an Endocrinology Fellow at the University of Colorado, Denver, CO.

 

Research Specialists

Jee Young Han, BFA, BS

Jeeyoung completed a degree in Fine Art at the Seoul National University in South Korea in 2009 and in Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2013. She joined the lab in February 2014. She performed undergrad research in the Dr. Loeb lab in 2012-2013 and was a Hilldale/Holstrom Recipient. She has an interest in pursuing a career in dentistry in the future.

Caroline Zellmer, BS

Caroline worked in the Davis lab in 2013-14 as a sophomore. She double majored in Genetics and the History of Science.

 

Gregory Jones, BS

Greg worked in the Davis lab in 2013-14 as a sophomore. He majored in Genetics from the University of Wisconsin.

 

Colin Murphy, BS

Colin worked in the Davis lab in 2013-14 as a junior. He majored in Microbiology.

 

Amy Bier, BS

Amy joined the Davis lab in Spring 2013 as a sophomore as part of her Biology 152 course and worked with us through 2015. She graduated with a degree in Nutritional Sciences in 2015. She is currently attending medical school at Loyola University in Chicago, IL.

 

Jacob Bartosiak, BS

Jacob joined the lab as a sophomore in the spring of 2018. He completed 3 years of undergraduate research in the lab. He majored in Chemical Engineering with a certificate for Biology in Engineering. Jacob is currently pursing his medical degree at Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dawn Sherman, BS

Dawn initially worked with our lab on a collaborative project with David Abbott’s lab, beginning in 2014. She then worked in our lab prior to her graduation from UW-Madison in 2015. She is attending medical school at UW-Madison.

 

Kaitlyn Sacotte, BS

Katie joined the Davis lab in 2014 as an independent study student. She graduated with a degree in Nutritional Sciences in 2015 and completed a Capstone Experience in our lab. She began medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL in 2015.

 

Tess Battiola, BS

Tess joined the Davis lab in Spring 2014 as a sophomore as part of her Biology 152 course. She double majored in Evolutionary Biology and Spanish, graduating in 2016. Tess is attending medical school at UW-Madison.

 

Claudia Vilela, BS

Claudia joined the lab in the fall of 2017 as a Junior. She double majored in neurobiology and psychology. Claudia currently works as.a scribe for UW hospital and will be applying to medical school.

Zaid Sohail, BS

Zaid joined the lab in 2015. He majored in Evolutionary Biology, graduating May 2017. Zaid began attending Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2017.

 

Bilal Malas, BS

Bilal joined the Davis lab in summer of 2016. He is currently finishing up his Masters in Bacteriology at UW-Madison.

 

Lucille Anzia, BS

Lucille joined the lab in the fall of 2016 as a Junior. In 2017, she graduated with a degree in Neurobiology. She is working in Alejandro Roldán Alzate’s lab studying cardiovascular fluid dynamics and currently applying to medical school.
