Dr. Blumer started his research journey with Dr. Davis in 2015 as an undergraduate student. He graduated from UW-Madison in 2016 and joined her lab as a research intern until 2018. After rotating through a few other labs, he came back to the Davis Lab as a graduate student studying the role of Tcf19 in diabetes development. He completed his PhD in Endocrinology and Reproductive Physiology in 2023. Joseph then ventured to the west coast for a postdoctoral scientist position at Oregon Health & Science University. There he focused on gestational diabetes in humans, studying the effects of metformin on human placental trophoblasts. He also studied fetal heart development in response to high circulating lipids at an early gestational age in fetal sheep. Joseph recently joined the Davis Lab for the 4th time as a Research Associate.
